Working at Onshore Solutions Inc in Terre Haute, IN: 1 Employee Reviews

Director of Marketing

What do you like about working at Onshore Solutions Inc?

"I like the fact that I have a job more than anything. I also appreciate the fact that my bosses are rarely in the office. We are a very small organization with a very, very small staff of around 4 of us not counting the two owners. My job is pretty basic when it comes down to it, so there isn't a lot of stress. I also like the fact that I can work in my own corner of the office designing or networking without too many people coming near my office, it's like I have my own apartment away from home ( to explain that, we work in a converted house and my office was a bedroom at one point in time). There really isn't too much that I don't like about being here, our benefits are paid by the owners, we get regular raises, bonuses and plenty of holidays off ; but the best thing about being here is the travel. I attend 5+ trade shows a year plus international travel to clients if need-be."

Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?

"I made this job out of nothing. After speaking with him twice about what they currently had or did and let him know about possible opportunities, he jumped right in. There was no director of marketing when I applied, I told him what I was able to do, willing to do, and able to learn quickly which impressed him enough to give me a chance. After I proved myself (2 months) they brought me on as a full time employee rather than a contract employee. My best advice is bring something to the table and let them know what you can, are willing, and have done to make your work better."

What don't you like about working at Onshore Solutions Inc?

"I hate that the owners/my bosses are so unorganized and all around lacking in communication that when they take their 3,4,5 day weekends we are unaware of their absence until after the lunch hour begins. They leave and won't give anybody notice of upcoming projects or information vital to current projects. They aren't social people and that makes things hard since I was brought in for marketing and sales, they never open up and tell me their ideas, it's always some vague overview and they leave it to me to make my own decisions. NORMALLY that wouldn't be a bad thing, but they created this position after being in business for the past 26 years, so I have no job description or anything to base my ideas off of. I think I'm most scared that I'm creating everything involved with the sales, marketing, and design aspects of the company and my self confidence, or lack there of, scare me into thinking I need led through. If I had another complaint aside from them not being around, I suppose it would be nice to have more young people aside from myself and one other individual. The average age in this place is 150."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"First and foremost I would hire 3 more people. After that, I'm not entirely sure, I've only been with the company for 3 months. I do know that I would hold people more accountable for their work ethic and try to delegate more responsibilities to employees who were slacking or avoiding large projects so as to keep their evenings free."
