What do you like about working at J & J Oilfield Electric?
"I liked creating training modules and running day-to-day operations. I created an access database for keeping track of reports on how well or poor the company was doing financially. I enjoyed the money, of course as well. I enjoyed the daily challenges presented, and had a sense of success when problems or issues were resolved. I enjoyed dealing with the vendors and making supply orders. I enjoyed keeping track of inventory and working with the employees to make us more efficient. I enjoyed being the 'go-to' person when upper management was not available to take care of business."
Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?
"Don't. I wouldn't suggest this company unless you were a relative or married into the 'family'. I can say that without malice, because my father owns his own auto parts distribution company, and I'm a relative, but I don't work for him for that reason."
What don't you like about working at J & J Oilfield Electric?
"I didn't like the constant inappropriate behavior from a member of management. Basically, your job essentially depended on his moods. He is a married man and stated that he'd like to see me in a 'wet t-shirt contest'. He sent me offensive jokes via email. He constantly verbally abused me and asked probing questions about my personal life which I felt were inappropriate. The man even threw food at me and attacked me with rubber bands when he was in the mood to. Complaints on a corporate level went nowhere. He was upset when I took vacation time to get married and released me upon returning back to work. I didn't like that there was no sense of consistency within human resources. Two of the same 'offenses' were always treated differently, considering who was closer to the 'boss'. I know this because I was in charge of trying to make things more 'consistent'. I had been there almost two years without an employee evaluation. I made one up for the company and made my boss give everyone an evaluation. He did it with much protestation and complaint. People like to know how they are doing, every few months and it's good incentive to keep your employees in the know - so they can up the ante on their work enthusiasm or know that they are about to get let go if they are doing not-so-well. Also, there was very little support from upper management and they could not be counted on to answer the phone in the many absences away from work - helping to get cable in their house or going to the massage therapist, or sleep lab. In this knowledge, my taking off to go the psychiatrist for my autistic son's treatment was a capitol offense. He was not there when he was needed, decisions had to be made, and generally decisions that I was given authority to make were changed upon his return, even up to a week later."
What suggestions do you have for management?
"Honestly I would tell my former supervisor to grow up, get consistent and learn how to handle human resources appropriately."
