Senior Systems Engineer

"I have been working as a Systems Engineer contractor for the past 14 years on several government contracts. I have been a lead engineer of a team of 13 maintaining 24 hours operations on a large amount of servers and workstation span over two different domains. I was also the first engineer at inception on new systems and capabilities to help pave the way CONOPS were created and implemented. Currently my main focus is on UNIX and Windows platforms and the assisting the site with their production life cycle."

"We support the warfighter so there is some satisfaction knowing that the work I do impacts (however slightly) the mission of our troops."

"Ask about career progression and define what you would like to achieve. If you aren't proactive about your career, no one else will pay attention."

What don't you like about working at NJVC?

"I am completely unmotivated here. If I didn't have my pride I could just sit here for years and waste away. I feel like I'm wasting my time and my career as it is."

"I have no idea what role the CEO plays here, so effectively communicating our goals and our progress would be the first thing I'd do differently. We get an occasional email but that's about it."

"As with any interview: Own it and be confident without being arrogant or boastful."

What don't you like about working at NJVC?

"NJVC management has a thin outer layer of talent. This talent possesses (and clings onto for dear life) the bulk of the knowledge within the company. The vast majority of the remaining workforce is filled with warm bodies that have pulses. This is most evident in the remainder of the management (the bottom 95%). Sometimes it feels as though Corporate, in an attempt to save money, successfully cloned Bill Lumbergh. As demonstrated in the movie Multiplicity however, the creation of a copy of copy, a copy of a copy of a copy, and so on yields results that continually trend downward..."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"Patch the hemorrhage that consistently causes duplication of work of a massive scale and gain a multitude of efficiencies in the process."
