Overview Marist College is a small, private college. The 210-acre main campus is located in Poughkeepsie, New York. The school was founded in 1929 by the Marist Brothers, a French-based Catholic society. Originally, the school was a seminary for training future educators. Marist retains its ecumenical character and has developed into one of the country's leading liberal arts colleges.

Today, Marist College has more than 5,000 undergraduate and graduate students. The school has a very competitive and selective acceptance process. Marist has a low 15-to-1 student to teacher ratio. The college offers more than 60 degree programs. There is also a campus in Florence, Italy and Marist study sites in 31 other countries. The Princeton Review and Entrepreneur magazine have recognized Marist for its academic excellence.
