"I've worked at Kroger for almost a year. I work as a coffee shop clerk... managers don't give a crap about you. I have seniority over some other employees and they're getting the shifts I want when I should be getting them. They don't give breaks because normally I work alone for a 6 hour shift. I like the flexibility they give and they approve almost every day off. Also, they refuse to give you full time, if you're close they cut your hours."
"I worked there as a temp. Seemed to me no one knew what they were doing. Was a 6 month assignment. After we caught their emails up, they said "Oh hey - see you, we are done with your training class." It had been 3 weeks."
"Very political. Anyone who questions management is labelled a "problem"."
"Company has a very closed culture. If you do not start with the company at the bottom you will not be welcome. They still want to do things the same way that they did 20 year ago. They often said that there is a right way, a wrong way then the Kroger way. They do not want to hear of a better way to do things. It is their way or the highway. Rumor mill is very bad. If you like to kiss butt then this is the place for you. The good thing is that if you have a limited skill set and not a lot of drive, then this is the place for you."
"I have worked at Kroger since 2008 and have worked in various positions. While they were flexible for when I went to college, everything else was weird. The managers ranged from good to horrible depending on who was in charge. The pay is not good and the co workers are okay for the most part but get crazy over the little things. As a job for college it was good, if I wasn't in college I would not want to work here."
"My experience with Kroger, namely the Fuel Department, is limited to just under a year. One cannot be paid nearly enough to perform what they insist upon. You will be required to work over 35 hours a week, 8 hour shifts without breaks, and bear with a constant torrent of hateful customers."
"I spent 4 years at KB and there is a lack of communication between management and supervision. Management communicates exclusively by e-mail and does not want to hear any dissenting opinions."
"I've worked for Kroger for 5 1/2 years. The job has given me a lot of life experiences and many positive relationships in all walks of life. I am grateful to have worked for this company."
"I've worked for Kroger for 2.5 years with excellent annual reviews that boil down to nothing. The employees are expected to go above and beyond for the customers, yet we are paid poorly."
"I found working at Kroger a fine place to work during high school and college. Very flexible with school work load."
