What do you like about working at Kmart?

"In 2007 they wanted to change their culture into a positive, professional, customer-centric environment, as opposed to old managers' Machiavellian, and narcissistic ways. I was hired to be a part of the new wave of management to incorporate this change. This is very exciting! Most associates at store level are wonderful to work with."

Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?

"Be aware this company has large leadership issues at all levels. Executive level cannot figure out how to properly steer this company resulting in frequent changes that clobber progression at stores' levels. This will affect one whether an executive or a PT hourly associate."

What don't you like about working at Kmart?

"Late 2007 and still going there is a mass exodus in HQ. The executive behind changing the culture and the reason I came to this company, was part of the many leaving their posts. Almost immediately, the DM and RM level of management became nasty, oppressive ogres to work for. On a daily basis the DM and/or RM would completely ruin the morale of the culture I worked so hard to build. This was beyond frustrating. Favoritism abounds at this company as does hypocrisy."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"Executives at this company need to understand the social shift to enable associates to balance work and family, as well as the shift in management principles to understanding that personnel are an asset that need to be treated well and with respect. The old Machiavellian ways of management are now a severe detriment to a company and Kmart does not understand this concept."

Assistant Manager

"Kmart only if you are desperate."

"It was the worst experience in my life. There was a manager who was attracted to one particular employee and that employee did not work, but spent most of his time with the manager in the office eating pizza... not good for morale."

Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?

"Yes, understand that you will be asked a lot and be given very little. Take a part time anywhere else, you will get more hours and more respect."

What don't you like about working at Kmart?

"The district managers were rude, never acknowledged any work anybody did unless it was a friend of his and promotions were done not on the basis of qualifications but on the basis of, are you a yes man."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"There is a reason why Target and Walmart are succeeding and Kmart and Sears are failing... look at the managers and district managers closely and you will see mirrors of themselves and that's not good."
