What do you like about working at Kaplan?

"I loved working here. Highly intellectual, forward thinking, reaching out and helping impoverished people to change their circumstances. I knew the students as well as I knew the faculty and administrative staff."

What don't you like about working at Kaplan?

"I loved my work but was amazed by some of the investigations and employee relations issues that I had to resolve. As an example, I received a student complaint about an instructor who thought it was perfectly fine to show her breast reconstruction surgery as part of the students' anatomy and physiology lab. Another instructor thought it was completely acceptable to invite his students to join him in his hot tub to discuss and debate Albert Einstein theories. I had a blast and would probably still be there if the company had not done a reorganization which relocated my assignment to the northeast."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"Actually, with the support of in-house counsel and existing HR policies and procedures, there weren't a major need to change anything but be responsive to mitigate or contain liability exposure. Annual training on sexual harassment, hostile work environment, and code of ethics helped to shaped a learning environment that served the students."

What don't you like about working at Kaplan?

"At Kaplan you are treated like a number not an employee. You are also required to treat your students the same way, just an enrollment number and nothing else."

"Change the way you treat employees and students."
