Kalahari Resorts Employee

"Management has no idea what it means to be professional or how to treat ALL employees with respect. Management needs to understand that they are nothing without their employees. They expect you to give everything you have, including abandoning your own family to give vacationing families a good time, yet they refuse to show their employees with any semblance of gratitude for what they give up to give the guests the time of their life. Housekeeping are refused lunch breaks and are expected to work anywhere from 8-15 hrs a day and are given no lunch breaks and then are forced to work 12 days straight before receiving a day off. STOP TREATING US AS SLAVES AND SEE US AS PEOPLE, NOT ROBOTS. For a business it is much cheaper to retain and keep good employees than to have a revolving door of new employees whom you have to train and then pay for comps when the new employees continually mess up. There is no way the owner and his family do not know how management treats his employees, so it makes him and his family just as bad as management for allowing them to treat the employees the way that they do. They’ll all be sorry once they screw the wrong person over and they have a union in there. And if the front desk is going to continually tell guests that the tip is included in the bill, then start putting the gratuity the housekeepers checks or stop lying to the guests. Your employees work hard to bring in and keep your guests happy, you should treat them well instead of doormats."

What do you like about working at Kalahari Resorts?

"My fellow employees are great. There is a comrade-re that one usually finds among employees who suffer together. Like war buddies!"

Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?

"Ask them how much the health insurance is. Ask them to pull in a random employee and ask if they have received any of the accolades they profess to give. They have reward programs, but so few ever receive them, and some departments don't do them at all."

What don't you like about working at Kalahari Resorts?

"The company couldn't care less if employees stay or go. Thus, the employee benefits are expensive, and with the pay so low, the benefits are out of reach of most employees, or the employee ends up working mostly for benefits and no compensation."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"Stop treating every employee like they are thieves, and try to be one of the best employers in the area - not by attracting the most customers, but by attracting the best employees, and giving them affordable benefits and a liveable wage. If you want to be the best, and give platinum service, then give your employees platinum service too. Asking them to give platinum service, and then offering benefits at a rate they cannot afford, and withholding pay increases to pay for more additions to the resort makes employees feel like the company doesn't care one bit about them."
