Assistant Manager

"I worked at Journeys as an assistant Manager for quite a while and I enjoyed just about every second of it. Unfortunately with recent turn of events economically, I have outgrown the wonderful experience. It taught me to conduct myself as a professional and work under high stress and tension. Mainly as a numbers guy, being an analyst at the Charles Shwab Foundation kept me on my feet as there was new things everyday within a confined routine, increased productivity and time seemed to fly. I loved it."

Store Manager

"Working at Journeys is like being in an abusive relationship"

What do you like about working at Journeys Shoes?

"Laid back dress code, great discount, a fun environment is encouraged by the company"

Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?

"Run away. If you are covered in tattoos and have no life responsibilities, then this is the place to go to be overworked and taken advantage of. Otherwise, you will make more $ at McDonald's."

What don't you like about working at Journeys Shoes?

"No work/life balance. Company runs stores on a skeleton crew forcing managers to work 6 day/50+ hour weeks. If you aren't in a higher volume store, you will make less an hour than the guy making your lunch in the food court. The pay scale seems designed to take advantage of twenty somethings with tattoos. Not possible to support a family after 100+ hours at work in a pay period."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"Revise your pay structure. Allow for more than two key holders per store to allow mgt a better work/life balance. Increase payroll so managers do not have to work long shifts without the ability to eat, sit down for break or even use the bathroom."

Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?

What don't you like about working at Journeys Shoes?

"The lack of communication and support not only from the District managers, but from the Corporate office as well."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"Listen to your employees. Whether it be suggestions, or simple questions as to how they can better themselves."

"Fun place to work as a part time job."

What don't you like about working at Journeys Shoes?

Manager

"Not such a good place."

What do you like about working at Journeys Shoes?

"I enjoyed the discount, of course. I felt it was an awesome fit for my personality. It's a cool place to work, unless you're a manager."

What don't you like about working at Journeys Shoes?

"The company requires an audit every time a new manager (assistant, or general) is replaced. This is a policy I agree with. Unfortunately, I fired three assistants for theft, never received an audit after any of them left, and when *I* had an audit, it screwed me to the point of termination. I should have pursued this legally, but I was lucky enough to pick a new job up immediately."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"WATCH your staff. Sometimes even the sweetest, friendliest staff may have a motive to steal. When my assistants worked alone, it gave them lots of time to steal without ME seeing it. Cameras should be installed."

Store Manager

"fun environment, long hours, but commissioned"

What do you like about working at Journeys Shoes?

"great music and laid back dress code"

What don't you like about working at Journeys Shoes?

"lack of upper management support"

What suggestions do you have for management?

"have keyholders"

Retail Store Manager

"Loved my job and the product, but uppermanagment needed some work."

What do you like about working at Journeys Shoes?

"I loved the product, the freedom to have fun with the guests and always getting in new things."

What don't you like about working at Journeys Shoes?

"I didn't like the lack of communication from upper managment on performance and concerns."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"We were supposed to have weekly office calls to discuss how everything was going and those rarely happened. I would say that those happening every week would be a great thing for business."
