"Intel is a great company to work with. Excellent work life balance. Work is pretty relaxed. Lot of exiting work to do. Managers here are very cool (although different people will have very different experiences). It does have the downfalls of any big company like internal politics and difficult to move up. Also Folsom is a wonderful place to live, hardly any traffic, cheap housing."

Working at Intel in Hillsboro, OR: 119 Employee Reviews

Intel Employee

"Being a Process Engineer at Intel, specifically in D1D Ramp, is exactly as everyone says. Long hours, stressful, fast paced, on-call 24/7, and if you end up with a difficult module, you will have a much worse time than someone on another module. There's no such thing as work/life balance. However, you have access to the most sophisticated technology, in the best fab in the world. You are also fairly well compensated for your work. Manager/employee relations are not great, as you would expect from promoting technical nerds to management roles without extensive training. Also, the fab management hierarchy is very flat, often requiring horizontal moves before the possibility of any vertical moves."

"Intel is stuck in a rut doing the same things over and over in the same ways. It seldom uses new approaches to solve problems and the design environment is about 10 years behind the rest of the industry. With Intel just now adopting SOC design which has been used by ARM for over 15 years. I would not suggest this company."

"Most of my experience is good. My final position was lacking in managerial support. I had a direct manager who was in charge of only me. He was not a good manager."

"Intel may be a good location to begin your career, but it is not a place to remain. Politics are extreme, and the over-emphasis of meritocracy make this an environment which discourages teamwork. The people who get ahead are senseless braggarts who invest more in self-promotion that in actual progress."

"I worked at Intel for 1.5 years as a contractor and really enjoyed the people and workplace amenities. I so wished that I could have used the spa, gym and sports fields available at our campus but alas, those were for blue badges only. They also had game rooms, and kitchenettes w/ a random combination of a: soda fountain, coffee station, vending machines, self-service convenience store."

"I have worked for Intel for 9 years. The climate inside Intel varies a lot from one organization to another. I liked my group, most of my colleagues are easy to get along with, most managers have been fair and considerate."

"It's a cool place to work. If you are into design and building systems, this is the place. But if your destiny is become a super coder, please choose some other company. And last but not least, its a great place to work with a lot of diverse roles and opportunities."

"Great place to learn new things and grow in software design and server architectures. The people are great to work with especially with new SCRUM methodologies. Company places a lot of interest and value on security-based validation. There is also potential to travel if you get to work with external customers."

"I've worked at Intel since 1998 and it has provided many opportunities to grow and learn. It is a competitive workplace that encourages driven individuals. Being a larger company, it is a little more difficult to break from the required processes that stifle speed and innovation which can make product delivery difficult."

"It was my first tryst in an industrial setting and I loved it. The work was highly challenging and motivating. I was able to ramp up quickly and begin working on the library development. The fun part was the team is under the bracket of HPC and I had the chance to enlighten my colleagues on some of the nitty gritties of it."
