"Learn to guide the employees better."

"Depending on your job role, I like the flexibility to work from home."

Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?

"Make sure you get the EXACT job that you want before accepting the job, because once you get in there, they are going to pin you to that job unless you threaten to leave. Moving around to different roles to advance your skills is going to be a chore so be ready to work."

What don't you like about working at IBM?

"I don't like the fact that it is hard to switch jobs. Once you get in a position, management wants you to stay there and makes it so political if you speak up and show interest in wanting to do something else. This makes you feel like employee happiness / satisfaction is not important. However, if you allow a person to work in a role in which they are happy, they will be more productive and won't quit like I did."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"I suggest that management listen to their employees and help them seek out other opportunities if they express the desire to move on."

"Fantastic resources, big company."

"Big company, sometimes too structured."

"Too much management, good old boys club."

"Get rid of about 3/4 of them."

"It was better than being unemployed. Got to make a lot of friends."

"Good place to brush up your interviewing skills. If you must accept the job, insist on higher starting pay, as you're unlikely to see any increases."

What don't you like about working at IBM?

"You have to work 80+ hours/week to get ahead. It is a very un-collaborative work environment and overly competitive. The work/life balance exists only to allow you to work more unpaid overtime."

"Get a job at a new company."

"IBM is a decent place to work, but you need to be in the right place at the right time in order to make progress due to the sheer size of the company."
