Hoveround is a leading provider and innovator of personal mobility services. The company's history began in 1991 when Tom Kruse built a revolutionary power wheelchair in his garage. His expertise in the medical equipment business inspired him to create a product that would allow wheelchairs to easily maneuver in home environments. By 1992, Tom Kruse and his brothers, George and Robert, created the Hoveround brand. In 1993, the brothers introduced Hoveround's first multipurpose vehicle. Unlike its predecessor, this new invention could operate indoors and outdoors while providing the same maneuverability and comfort levels as the original Hoveround.

Hoveround implemented a new process of reaching customers by refusing to use medical distribution companies. On June 28, 1994, Hoveround began selling its products directly to consumers. Hoveround received its certification as an FDA registered manufacturer in the same year. Three years later, Hoveround received an IOS 9001 certification. Today, Hoveround manufactures high powered wheelchairs in over 100 warehouses and operates 140 service vans.
