Guess was founded in 1981 by four brothers, originally from France, who had recently relocated to California. Two of the brothers, Paul Marciano and Maurice Marciano, are currently co-CEOs of the company. Although some stores were initially reluctant to carry the new stone-washed style of denim jeans, Guess quickly became the most popular brand of jeans during the 1980s. They were also one of the first clothing brands to introduce the concept of designer jeans.
