The Katharine Gibbs College was originally operated under the name of Providence School. Its original campus location in Rhode Island was opened by Katharine Gibbs, and the purpose of the school was to provide career education to female students, and it quickly expanded with additional campuses in both New York and Boston. The school offered educational plans in areas like information technology, criminal justice, business and health services.
While it was nationally accredited by the ACICC, Gibbs college lacked a regional accreditation. This resulted in difficulty by its students when transferring credits or applying for graduate projects. In 1997, the school was acquired by the Career Education Corporation. This is a collective group of for-profit colleges that currently has an enrollment of over 100,000 students with over 80 locations worldwide. In 2008, CEC closed seven of the known former Gibbs campuses, and it has renamed the remaining two campus as Sanford-Brown College.
The parent company of the former Gibbs College, CEC, currently employs almost 15,000 individuals, and it boasts a headquarters in Schaumburg, Illinois. Employees at CEC enjoy an excellent compensation and benefits package. The benefits package includes a medical, dental and vision plan as well as a flexible spending account, wellness incentives, company matching retirement plans, a stock purchase plan, adoption assistance and a host of other benefits.
Director of Admissions is the highest paying job at Gibbs College at $82,000 annually.
