Gateway Careers & Info

Current CEO of Acer: J.T. Wang

Status: Active, acquired by Acer in 2007 and now operates under that brand name

Gateway Computer Corporation became a well-known household name in 1991. The business focuses solely on computer goods, and the primary products are PCs, monitors, servers and accessories. The computer giant became a Fortune 500 company for many years, but unfortunately, when the recession began, it took a major hit. In 2007, Gateway was acquired by Acer.

Since Gateway computers are now part of Acer, the information relating to careers, benefits, work environment, training and stability at the workplace is the same as Acer at the present time.

Gateway careers have changed slightly since 2007, but are still available for anyone interested in working for the computer giant. Working at Gateway via Acer means that workers can expect good training programs for the type of work employees are likely to encounter.

Gateway benefits are the same as those offered through Acer since the acquisition. Acer employees can expect to receive good benefits for the work performed. All Acer employees in the United States are provided a 401(k) with 50 percent company match, medical insurance, dental coverage, a vision plan, disability coverage, life insurance, paid time off between three to five weeks a year depending on company loyalty and paid holidays. The monetary compensation is considered reasonable based on the type of employment position.

The Gateway culture before the acquisition was friendly and focused on the needs of employees. The small town values at the company’s roots resulted in a high employee satisfaction rate when compared to the competition. Unfortunately, Acer is a large corporation and the values of Gateway have changed since 2007. Since the acquisition, many of the employees from Gateway were laid off, resulting in low satisfaction as it relates to employment stability. Furthermore, the environment at Gateway has become fast-paced due to the corporate values.

While the bankruptcy and acquisition of Gateway limits the job potential for any position within the business, professionals in technology are able to obtain employment at Gateway via Acer. Though the culture has changed from the original small town roots and is now fast paced, employees are still satisfied with the work. Working for Gateway is not the best job for every individual, but for men and women who have an interest in computers and are able to keep up in a fast paced environment, it can be a good career path.
