"There was no career progression program. Promotions were totally arbitrary with no relevance to qualifications, education, and background. No good deed went unpunished."

"just prepare yourselves for constant travel any given time."

"not having benefits"

"maintain a pool of disaster assistance specialists, especially project specialists, provide benefits and hire less contractors will save the gov't. money"

"it's a great place to get experience, travel and many challenges. I really like that I can take off month and handle family matters."

"Like I said before it's great experience."

What don't you like about working at FEMA?

"It feels like there is a lot of preference with the people the decide to call to work. I think there shouldn't be all these regions and have only one, we all work for the same agency with the same purpose which is to provide assistance and help applicants."

"The only suggestion would to have the personnal well trained, qualified, willing to work. I have seen people that only want to work a month and the people that want to work don't get called out."

"Helping people who really need it and the opportunities for training and development."

"Tread carefully. Few are hired on interviews, it is who you know that can sponsor you into the agency."

"The politics are incredibly counterproductive and dangerous. Lots of management officials in jobs they are unqualified for. Scary!!!"

"I did like the travel, but I'm not interested in living in a hotel 300 nights a year anymore."

"Make sure you know what your getting into."

"The inadequacies of development of youth within the organization and the lack of career advancement opportunities."

"To stop being so narrow minded/thinking in black and white."

"No one micro managed me and I was able to get a lot of experience."

"The challenge that represent the evaluation of every application by reviewing every document against regulation and reviewing files for fraud detection"

"Even when my shift was from 6 pm to 6 am it was good. Nothing to complain about."

"They promise you a position and then get rid of you once the work is completed. Not the place to work for someone with family obligations."

"Treat it like its a part time job, always keep you eye and ears open in the job market."

"They place people on temporary status then never use them again."

"Hire a basic staff and give several different duties. So they may be able to have a full timeposition with them."

"It was hard being deployed for months on end during that time in my life"
