Working at FDM Group in New York City, NY: 6 Employee Reviews

FDM Group Employee

"I've worked here for the last 6 months. They promise placement after completing training, but account managers don't reply to their emails. Also, you're locked into a 2-year contract that only benefits them."

"My experience at FDM has been pretty well. It was a launching pad into the field of IT, however, I believe there is much room for improvement with the compensation and overall care FDM could have for its employees"

"I started working as a Java Development Trainee at FDM’s Austin pop-up campus. They provide excellent software development training, and the possibility to work with well-established giants in the financial industry. Depending on the region and time period, there are plenty of opportunities."

"Low pay. No Benefits. No respect. No desire to adjust to fit American standards."

What do you like about working at FDM Group?

"Free training in IT profession and payment for IT certification exams."

Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?

"Make it very clear about your salary rate, benefits, placement, and an exit strategy."

What don't you like about working at FDM Group?

"There is NO over-time pay, no retire benefits, and everyone is paid below the market rate including internal staff. All consultants are paid 43000 USD on their first year and 45000 USD on their second year. Consultants only receive full salary when working with a client. When not on assignment, consultants receive $23000. All paychecks are received on a monthly basis (every 30 days). The monthly payments makes it difficult for personal finances especially since the pay is extremely low. In addition, the company prides itself about its Academy program. The Academy program is full of holes. It does provides free training in three different areas in IT (project management, application support, and java development) promising candidates placement with its blue chip clients. Plus, the Academy will pay for IT certifications. However, be aware that placement is NOT guaranteed. Also the training is NOT paid. Training can last 3 to 5 months depending what you are studying. In addition, you have an additional 3 months after completing training for managers to sell you to clients. So that can be 6-8 months without being paid. Also, you might not even get a job after those 6-8 months dedicated to the program. My suggestion would be try to get all of your certifications while at FDM. That way if you do not get a job, at least you receive some sort of certification for FREE."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"Increase the pay for consultants and staff. It understandable that FDM does provide training through its Academy and decent vacation days, but there are American companies that provide the same programs with better pay. Include pension plans. I have heard even full-time staff do not receive a pension plan at all. If you want to keep employees, give them a reason to stay.Reduce favoritism and treat all employees and departments the same. There is a lack of respect displayed by this company (particularly the British employees). It is understandable the company was establish in the UK and some portions of British culture will be kept. But if you plan to do business overseas, you MUST respect the culture in which plan to operate your business. Try to respect us American co-workers and our culture."
