"Long hours, high stress."

What do you like about working at Target?

"Fun co-workers, especially as a young, recent college graduate. Attractive starting salary, but not nearly as attractive when you realize how many hours you'll be expected to work."

Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?

"Be prepared to provide specific examples at all levels. The company places a very high value on good interviewing skills, and your ability to express yourself in that setting will have a huge impact on your ability to not only get the job, but to move up down the road. Focus on customer (guest) service, integrity and high energy/accountability in your answers."

What don't you like about working at Target?

"Long hours, looked down on if you need to take time for an appointment, if you're sick or if you want to take vacation for more than a few days. As a result, you end up working sick, and wearing yourself thin with little to no time off. Your ability to get promoted is highly dependent on who you are working for. You can go from high potential to mid-range performer to high potential to problem performer without changing your work habits at all."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"Value your employees more, and spend the money to staff the stores well. Even as a customer, I notice that it's hard to find someone on the floor to help, and the cashier lines seem to get longer and longer."

What do you like about working at Target?

"Exceptional pay, good benefits, friendly coworkers (both salary and hourly team members), reputable brand prestige."

Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?

"Be prepared for behavioral questions, for example tell me about a time when you... They are looking for STAR (situation, task, action, result) responses. They also look for the depth/scope of your responses to see how critically you are thinking. Politics are a big factor; play nice and speak clearly and with a sense of urgency."

What don't you like about working at Target?

"Poor talent management of executive team leaders from district and group leadership, little or no communication between some district leadership and executive team leaders at the store level, very poor placement (no strategy) of new talent, especially where new executive team leaders are concerned, poor management of store cultures (if the store team leaders are not being held accountable and doing their job to take care of their store team, their teams will not take care of the store in return)."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"Dedicate more time and effort to ensuring that you are placing the right people in the right place. Not everyone is going to be well suited to an Assets Protection leadership role as they would be to a Salesfloor leadership role. Get to know the new leadership talent that you are hiring and then place them strategically in a position that both parties see themselves working within. Otherwise, you are going to have new talent that is unhappy in their new position and will fail at their job. You will then be setting them up for failure even though they could have succeeded elsewhere."

What do you like about working at Target?

"Good pay. Good benefits. Friendly coworkers. Company brand prestige."

Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?

"Average weekly workload: 60-70 hours every week. Be prepared to get "down and dirty," meaning stocking shelves, unloading your truck, cleaning spills, painting your walls, etc. While you're a leader, you're also a 360 leader and should be able to do it all when you need to. Politics. Play nice, be friendly, and be urgent when you're working. If you stray off the beaten path, be sure that you have other leaders above you that you can rely on and talk to if you're questioning the integrity/ethics of others. Good communication. Be sure that you are always communicating with your boss and your fellow managers."

What don't you like about working at Target?

"Poor talent management at district and store leadership levels. Poor communication from group and district levels to store levels. Poor placement of new leadership talent in stores."
