"I have worked for Dollar Tree since 2005 and have seen a lot of changes. It used to be a great company to work for, but with the economy the way it is there have been a lot of cuts. It's understandable but makes it difficult sometimes. Also, there isn't room for upward mobility. They continue to hire District Managers from outside the company without offering the position to current managers with a lot of experience and dedication."

"Understand that they will promise you the world going in, and when you are running your own store they will back out of the promises they made."

What don't you like about working at Dollar Tree?

"There was no support from upper management to help run the store effectively."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"Listen to the people in the stores and have consistency across the upper levels of management."

"I was in charge and everything was only a dollar."

"Be prepared to give them your soul!! No work/life balance."

What don't you like about working at Dollar Tree?

"Never enough payroll to get everything done and upper management was completely lost."

"Distribute payroll differently in the stores and organize them better."

"I like retail, but that is the only thing that Dollar Tree has going for it."

"Stay away."

What don't you like about working at Dollar Tree?

"Everything, hours are terrible, no authority for the store manager to do anything but cut payroll, you don't get to see a p&l, or actually manager of the business, and I suggest you don't have a family, as with them family should be number 100 on your list behind dollar tree 99 times."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"Allow your store managers to be managers, and not just caretakers of a building for a dm."

"I enjoyed the professional relationships I built while with Dollar Tree."

"The interview process is rather laid back and easy to talk your way into a job."

What don't you like about working at Dollar Tree?

"Some of the senior management were not model team builders or communicators. As well as they weren't open to suggestions from store managers, nor did they utilize their store managers' strengths and experience to achieve objects through open communication and mutual understandings."

What do you like about working at Dollar Tree?

"The pace is fast and the people I work with are great. Customers are happy with the service."

Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?

"Go somewhere else . There is no money for managers. Salaries are getting smaller and promotions are not coming from within."

What don't you like about working at Dollar Tree?

"We are treated like hourly employees and have everything we do very day to day of how we do it. We do not have flexibility with running the store to achieve sales. The district and regional take payroll from us but still expect us to get the job done. Moving up in this company means you get hired from outside to get the higher jobs outside of the store. No one gets promoted from within."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"If it is company policy then don't change that because it is the regional management that want it their way. Should be only one set of rules."
