Working at Texas Department of Family and Protective Services in Lubbock, TX: 1 Employee Reviews

CPS Specialist

"Learned highly desirable work skills but compensation doesn't measure up."

What do you like about working at Texas Department of Family and Protective Services?

"Flexibility, building marketable skills for the workplace, responsibility, professionalism, paid leave"

Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?

"All I can say is that the job is going to be hard, but the skills you learn will be invaluable to your long-term career. Try to negotiate for a higher salary to begin with, because that will be the only chance you get for a long long time. If you can stick it out past the first year to 18 months, then you'll learn the skills you need to feel comfortable in the job without relying so much on the help and direction of others. If you can stick out out that long, I think you'll find the overall experience worth it, and you'll have a whole new respect for yourself on what you are capable of achieving."

What don't you like about working at Texas Department of Family and Protective Services?

"Unrealistic expectations, no work/life balance, no recognition, no advancement opportunities, poor monetary compensation for the work you're doing."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"Start doing more for the employees you have to keep them there instead of focusing efforts on new recruitment. Give us some type of incentive to be there, especially since the money is obviously not going to get any better any time soon."
