"My particular department promoted people based on popularity versus real ability. My immediate supervisor had NO experience supervising so no leadership or communication skills were present. This person was known as the department 'rat.' This caused alienation among the staff. Additionally, my manager wanted me to spy on my co-workers and 'tell' on them. Others were solicited similarly. Obviously, NOT a nice place to work."
What suggestions do you have for management?
"Get rid of the 'high school' mentality. How much life experience can an 18-23 year old have? Why would you have them supervise people with husbands/wives and children? Create and build teams that are aligned on a vision/goal. Inspire people, don't threaten them."
