Then only two years later, they went through another ownership change when GTCR Golder and Rauner purchased Carolina Freight. After 15 years of holding the company, GTCR finally sold it to the current owners, Centrebridge Partners, in 2012.

Cardinal Logistics changed their name from Cardinal Freight Carriers in 2005 to better reflect their focus on the logistics aspect of the market. Throughout all these changes, they still maintained their headquarters in Concord, North Carolina.
