"Civil service can be a very rewarding job, but it's not for everyone. It's very stable employment, but bureaucracy doesn't leave a whole lot of room to develop outside of one's current role."

Student Assistant

"I have worked for the California Department of Transportation since April of 2018. I have worked in two different units, and both units were great to worth with. The employees were helpful and taught me how they work with engineering in their field. I have worked in Encroachment Permits and then for Traffic Operations. I was able to see the difference in work for each unit. It was easy to get along with and loved to catch up with employees as I would see them."

The great people, nice office environment, and flexible work hours was perks. The location is more commute friendly for employees using the Caltrans transportation train ( more lucrative is the discount on the monthly pass for employees).
