Brocade Communications Systems, Inc. is one of the largest retailers of hardware and software for SAN (storage area network) technology. Its operations also include the design, manufacture and sale of hardware and software for networks on a local or wide-area scale.

The company was founded in August of 1995 in a collaboration between Seith Neiman, Paul Bonderson and Kumar Malavalli, with input from Dave Banks and Paul Ramsay shortly after. It is based in the Bay Area's Silicon Valley, a hotspot for the new generation of tech companies. Its first hardware product, the SilkWorm, has since expanded into a wider range of products, now often used in conjunction with Dell hardware. By March 2009, the company had sold over 10 million of its SAN switches and has come to dominate the SAN switch market. Its portfolio also features applications for network management on a small and large scale, serving individuals and corporations alike. It is now one of the foremost companies in the industry of networking hardware and software, with an annual revenue in the region of $2.2 billion.
