What don't you like about working at Bal Seal Engineering Co?
"The only thing that I did not like about working at Bal Seal Engineering is that once a created training program was proven to be successfull the manufacturing vp of operations did not feel that continuous improvement was necessary. He did not realize that once all of the workforce had been trained it was important to understand that to remain competent we needed to continue the continuous improvement concepts. On-going training was a must."
What suggestions do you have for management?
"An organization must continue to invest in internal training. If not concepts will go back to how it was tribal knowledge. It is not the correct way to facilitate training by having the senior machinist training the newby. If the senior machinist has picked up bad habits along the way or has learned to cut corners, those bad habits will be passed on and embedded into the newby. We should never forget that quality should be job #1. There should always be time for training. It is more costly for an organization to have to re-work parts than to train its personnel efficiently so as to be able to produce it correctly the first time and every time."
