"Give me the opportunity to learn more about supply chain management, constant changes in technology and fast paced environment. The high energy that you feel in everyone, the commitment to accomplish the work with high standards, everyone working together to achieve the same goal and with enthusiasm. Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?

"Most of all you have to have the desire to do a good job every day to run the extra mile when you have the opportunity to see the results of your hard work and have the satisfaction to see your accomplishments day in and day out, that gives you the energy to return the next day."

What don't you like about working at Applied Materials?

"The only problem they have is the ups and downs of the industry. By being in the semiconductor industry the market can have drastic changes in demand; therefore, there were many lay-offs about every two or three years and we lost many good people in these turns."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"Have an open mind, I know there are rules and regulations but sometimes you have to go out of the box to accomplish special steps and accomplish something wonderful and beneficial to the organization. In general use good common sense not everyone is exactly alike and managers have to have not only the knowledge of the organization but have strong personnel management skills to be able to use their most strong asset the people that work for them."

"Would not recommend this company at the Fairfield location. But I believe the Santa Clara campus is a healthier working environment."

"Working environment was deteriorating due to threat of massive layoffs. People were worried about their jobs and and working as a contractor became very uncomfortable."

"They need to develop their group social capital skills so that they make work as a team rather then against each other trying to save their jobs."

"I'ts been 13 years. however it had all the right ingredients, growth, good people, etc."

"Go for it!"

"In the mid 90's, the newer management was out of their element when it came to new product development."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"Go back and find the older generation engineering managers, and find out what made them tick, spend some time sitting next to each employee for a full day or so and see what they actually do, and don't call so many meetings."

"Don't interview here unless you want to have little or no free time, and have to constantly be on call."

What don't you like about working at Applied Materials?

"High stress level. No work life balance. Little or no rewards towards its employees (especially the engineers doing most of the work). People are rarely promoted (I have not been promoted in 2 years). Too much management, not enough employees. Overworked."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"Hire more engineers, more employee retention and bonuses. Hire less VPs and managers. Compensate employees more."

"I like that the company cares for their employees and makes sure that safety is #1."

"There is absolutely nothing that I do not like, in fact I love AMAT."

"I say that management is like everywhere, you have to learn the people around you and then everything falls into place. I like to deal with people at all levels. Behavior is a subject that I enjoy it."
