"Horrible Leadership, Excellent Overall Vision"

What do you like about working at America Works?

"The vision and mission of the company is necessary in our society. There are a variety of demographics that find it difficult to become employed (veterans, ex-offenders, welfae, etc.). You will work with talented, professional colleagues."

Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?

"You will get the job if you have a clean backgrund and decent credit. Only take this job if you have been unemployed and need cash. I promise that any compny is better than this one. All companies have their issues, but there are deep-seated problems permeating within this company. Be sure to do research on the company. Search sites like careerbliss.com to find out what others have said about the company. I did before I began working and didnt believe it. I should have. Everything other/past employees have said is completely true. DO NOT think all reviews are written by completely disgruntled employees. I wish managment read them, so that some meaningful changes could be made."

What don't you like about working at America Works?

"Turnover is very high.As with most companies, your immediate supervisor with throw you under the bus in conversations to protect themselves. What is disturbing is that conversations about employees are discussed in front of their peers. This happened to me while visiting the facilities (before my start date). I should have taken that as a cue to start looking. When I found out that it happened to me, I considered taking legal action, but I had employment with another firm."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"Do not consume food or other products that will cause you to be intoxicated before visiting a site office."

"Challenging but rewarding."

What do you like about working at America Works?

"Waking up to go to work everyday knowing you will make a difference in someone's life. I love doing work that has an impact, especially helping find people jobs. My clients motivate me when weather is bad, when I'm frustrated, when I'm having a bad day, I know they need me."

Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?

"A college degree at minimum is needed. Keep in mind that not being part of the system (not knowing about welfare or social policies) doesn't mean you won't get hired. Be confident in your skill set. They like people who can mix private sector and public sector. The most important thing you demonstrate are people skills. Can you handle the people you'll be seeing everyday. Also, indicate that you're interested in something with growth potential. They like staff who seem like they could move up in the company. Recent college graduates at entry level have a lot of flexibility to move up."

What don't you like about working at America Works?

"The work is hard. There is no avoiding that. It isn't work everyone can do. It requires patience, people skills, and flexibility. Sometimes a random client will scream at you and you haven't even done anything to them. But you have to know that at the end of the day, what you do changes someone's life."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"This type of work is intense and sometimes people carry the burden of the client home with them. Group meetings to help inspire and encourage staff would be great."

America Works Employee

"This could have been great place to hone skills and grow your career if not for the unbearable pressure the management put into your shoulders. The pressure to perform better is high but there is little to no support from management how to do this. It's frustrating especially when there's a meeting pushing everyone to do their jobs at their bests but it's really easier said than done. It would be acceptable if they offer support and training to be better, but they don't. They just reprimand you when you don't meet expectations."
