Yazaki is a global leader in the research, development, and data solutions for automotive vehicle applications. The company was founded by Sadami Yazaki in 1929 and they began by selling wire harnesses for automobiles. Yazaki works with nearly all of the top automobile makers in the world and the overwhelming majority of their business is selling products to those automobile makers.
Yazaki's main headquarters are located in Tokyo, Japan. However, since the company began expanding in the 1960s, they have opened up a European headquarters in Cologne, Germany and a North American headquarters in Canton, Michigan. The top selling items on Yazaki's product line include gas equipment, air conditioners, solar-powered systems, electrical cables, and auto meter instruments.
Yazaki is a privately owned corporation and one of the world's largest privately owned auto suppliers. They employ over 200,000 people in more than 40 countries across the globe. Even though Yazaki was created and is headquartered in Japan, about 90 percent of their employees work outside the company's home country. Yazaki employees are entitled to medical, dental, and life insurance as part of their benefits package. They are also given flexible spending accounts that Yazaki will deduct from each employee's payroll on a pre-tax basis.
