Woodman's Markets Employee

"I'm a college student that worked at Woodman's Markets in Madison WI for 2.5 summer months as an every-other-weekend employee in bagging and parcel/carts, while taking summer classes and working other small jobs. Overall, my review is that the company is not worth working in from the physical demands to the ridiculous management problems. The work was surprisingly physical/manual, but the pay is above average and most of the people were nice (of course my specific store had a fair share of arrogant/condescending/uncaring managers and coworkers, but that comes with any job like this). Bagging or pushing carts for 8 hours on a full shift with an unpaid one hour lunch break was a lot more physically AND mentally draining than I expected, and most of my shifts ended with me practically limping to my car in exhaustion. I appreciated the many "thank you's" I received from customers, but in my honest opinion it was not worth it. The pay during my time was 8.75 on Mon-Sat, pay-and-a-half for Sun (14.63), and double pay on holidays, all before taxes, which took off a ton. You may think this good pay, but for the toll my body was taking it wasn't healthy or worth it, plus I'm an athletic person who works out often so this was especially surprising. However my main issue with the company has been the scheduling system. I'm supposed to work every other weekends, yet somehow the corporate schedulers ALWAYS messed up my schedule and usually there wasn't anything I could do about it so I could end up working two straight weekends at times (I checked and others had similar problems). As I had other conflicts on those weekends, I had to constantly try to get other workers to take my shifts or I had to "call in" as absent, which would add points to my worker profile. The point/absence system is a whole other debacle and I don't have space to explain but suffice me to say it is ridiculous. Basically my employment was terminated by no fault of mine, because of ridiculous corp mistakes."

"I have worked ad sun prairie wood mans for over a year today. It has been a good learning experience in working with customers and with my co-workers.I have learned that important facts of working as a cashier, handling both money and people. I have found out that it is important to learn to accept other people opinions are their own, but not to believe everything that I hear to be truth. Most importantly I have learned that asking questions is important to learning."
