WebLink Wireless Overview

WebLink Wireless was a provider of wireless data services headquartered in Dallas, Texas and founded in 1994. It provided paging services all over the United States which were used by businesses and consumers. It was among the first company to offer full e-mail and internet functionality on wireless devices.

Services provided by WebLink Wireless included: numeric and alphanumeric paging, corporate intranet access, telemetry communications, alarm monitoring, wireless e-mail and web access. It had over 2.5 million subscribers on its nationwide wireless network. Despite the company's rapid expansion plans that aimed to take advantage of a growing demand for wireless data services, the company ended up having financial problems due to the decline of paging services which began in 2000. As web-enabled cell phones were taking a much bigger share of the market, even among enterprise clients, WebLink filed for Chapter 11 Bankruptcy in 2001.

WebLink Wireless Job Information

The company previously employed around 750 people around the nation. A proposed merger that would have saved WebLink from bankruptcy in 2003 didn't go through, which resulted in the company ceasing operations permanently.
