"Don't believe the promises that they tell you when you are hired. It takes a long time to move up in the company."
What don't you like about working at Verizon Wireless?
"At the retail level its very micromanaged, and in the current economy the sales goals are unrealistic. The commission dollars are impossible to make. Verizon promotes by sales, not by education."
What suggestions do you have for management?
"Forecast sales for the current economic conditions, not on what happened two years ago. Track traffic and hire more customer service reps for a store that is at least 70% customer service. Get rid of the score sheets and commissions and pay straight salaries with bonuses or other incentives for sales."

"I like the pay and the people."
Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?
"Verizon has changed over the years. You won't make as much on commissions. Make sure you get in at a higher base salary, like $15 an hour. Then you will make good money. If you decided to pick Verizon as a career, it really can be a great place to work. They train you very well and you generally will work with some great people. It can be high stress at times. This is not a slack-off job, so be sure you are ready to be busy and be professional."

"They are paying less and expect more."

"It depends on which store. The one here in Boynton Beach, Florida needs to do better. I walked in the store to talk to the manager but waited over an hour and ended up leaving."
