Virginia Commonwealth University is a nationally esteemed university. The main campus is located in the state capital of Richmond, Virginia. The urban campus encompasses 143 acres. The school is commonly called VCU. It was founded in 1838 as a medical department of a local college.

There are nearly 60 unique curriculums including Real Estate and Urban Land Development and Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness. The school's most popular majors are communications and biological sciences. The National Science Foundation ranks VCU as one of the top 100 research institutions.
