Virginia Commonwealth University is a nationally esteemed university. The main campus is located in the state capital of Richmond, Virginia. The urban campus encompasses 143 acres. The school is commonly called VCU. It was founded in 1838 as a medical department of a local college.


Today, the university has nearly 32,000 students and around 2,000 faculty members. VCU has 222 certificate and degree programs.
