Manager of Tutor Engagement

"Racial discrimination: I was called other Black female manager’s names on 10+ occasions during Google Meet meetings where our names were present on the screen. My direct supervisor did this multiple times to each of us. During my termination meeting he deflected by saying he does this to everyone instead of taking responsibility as a leader to learn his team and who they are as individuals so it is not done to anyone. Mental Health discrimination: I was diagnosed with PMDD on 10.1.2022 and disclosed this to Varsity Tutors HR the same day. I scanned and sent in my ADA accommodations after a 1 month follow up with my doctor to review on 10.31.2022. I sent my signed documents to the identified HR representative on 10.31.2022. I did not hear back so I sent my documents via Slack on 11.2.2022. On 11.3.2022 I was told a meeting would be set. On Monday 11.7.2022 a meeting was set for 11.9.2022 at 4:30p. I was terminated on 11.8.2022 at 11:20a. My accommodations were received and ignored and then I was fired with no prior history of warnings, poor work performance, or a history of chronic abuse. There are no written or verbal warnings on file. All of my performance management documents show excellent performance and praise from my direct supervisor."

"A great support team that cares about its students and contract tutors. I can not speak for the other factors of this company because I am a remote contract worker. However, there are plenty of opportunities for the person who is willing to devote the time and hard work needed to obtain and retain students."

"The training program was amazing and very detailed. Told us everything we needed to know about the company in case a lead asked, we were set. When it came to management outside of training, it was a little all over the place. Company culture went down the drain for a little bit but I believe if company culture would pick back up, it is a great place to work!"

"The job is good if you want a flexible work from home job. You can do many different things depending on which subjects you tutor. The work environment is completely dependent on you so it's as good or bad as you make it."

"I worked with Varsity Tutors for close to 3 years. Great company, they really have a way with making sure their employees are well accommodated. I was promoted very fast once my quotas were met, so upward mobility is there! Great atmosphere and great people make it even better to be a part of!"

"I work as a independent contractor for varsity tutors, mostly in computer science topics. So far I haven't had any conflicts with the company. The compensation is competitive and their online tutoring client gets the job done most of the time. There are a few limitations to the online client, there's no real built in support for programming, but there are workarounds. Unfortunately, there isn't always a steady stream of clients, but that's mostly due to the fact that most students are in college and don't seek tutoring while out of class. All and all, it's a nice company to work for."

"I love working with this company! They have been very reliable in making sure I am always at work. The support throughout making sure each and every student is successful is perfect. I also love their tech support. They hardly ever have any tech support issues but if there is a need for tech support they are right there ready to help!"

"Great opportunity for someone fresh out of college and or high school. Not the best pay and may be best for someone who lives with there family and or has a roommate situation. Room for growth is limited."

"I have been working at Varsity tutors for a few months now, and I love it. The flexibility of setting your own hours, and the ability to vet in-person tutoring opportunities allow me to work as much I would like and with whom I like. I personally prefer the in-person opportunities to tutor because I feel like I can have more impact than over a webcam. Overall, I would recommend Varsity Tutors to anyone looking to make some extra income."
