2.1Cons: No meaningful support. No means by which to report wasteful spending. I found one instance of wasteful spending to the tune of many thousands of dollars and was told I was not a team player for calling it into question and that I needed to protect the financial interests of the department over that of the organization. Not enough work to go around so people try to make themselves seem useful by imposing meetings and red tape on others. Not nimble, very wasteful, slow to react. Pay is low for the area and many staff live with extended family or have long commutes. Support staff have no meaningful promotional tracks. During covid: many staff were allowed to work remotely when they should not have been, leading to an uneven work balance for those left on campus.
Pros: decent vacation allotment although you do lose it each year. Benefits are fine. Campuses are beautiful. Food on campus is excellent. Departments often have staff lunches and staff outings.
2.3I’ve worked there for over a decade. It’s hard to advance as there are no real promotional tracks and they rarely promote or look for talent within and prefer to do national searches. The pay is low and I struggle with bills as a result. People are friendly. The hybrid work options are not given out fairly, I know people who should be there working with students who got hybrid over others because they are friends with management. They do have a good gym facility that staff can use and we get to go on trips as staff to restaurants for meetings, sometimes even on the boat to the island. Overall it isn’t terrible but I would advise trying for someplace better.
