"Universal Instruments developed in house software that supports all levels of the the surface mount products, from lower level to higher level implementation (GUI). Was able to learn all aspects of software engineering. Met some fun and interesting people."

What don't you like about working at Universal Instruments?

"A lot of layoffs, and reorganization but didn't see any improvements on how the software department functions. No R&D group. Needs more innovation for the future."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"Be more proactive instead of reactive to software development. Need more focus on employee's career development. Inspire new ideas and technologies to the current development process."

What do you like about working at Universal Instruments?

"The spirit of the long term survivors who have witnessed so many of their colleagues unfairly lose their jobs and livelihood. It's such a surreal place, almost like what it must have been like at the WWII concentration camps, watching your buddies get the gas chamber and wondering when it's going to be your turn."

Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?

"DON'T! Go try EIC, BAE or Lockheed instead! Folks, this place is a DEAD END! But if you do insist on working there, get EVERYTHING in writing and insist on a good severance package, since they completely eliminated this from their benefits package."

What don't you like about working at Universal Instruments?

"Where so I begin The current Sr management is ineffectual and needs to GO, before they completely tank this 90 year company and further destroy this local economy.They tend to keep you in the dark and manage by fear and intimidation. Be prepared to have your intelligence insulted by some very scared and insecure managers who quietly realize just how far they are over their heads!"

What suggestions do you have for management?

"To Senior management: RESIGN! Listen to your employees suggestions for a change. Be FAIR, HONEST and equitable to the employees."

"They gave me a chance at development when I had little experience and I had room to grow, push my ideas out, and really contribute."

"Job security was very poor. If they can get their stuff in order and get R+D to make the appropriate advances necessary to stay alive, they could be stable again."
