"I wish that Unisys was a stronger company. I loved working for them."

Consultant

"Company is too big."

What do you like about working at Unisys?

"Worked with good people. Also they had good training available, and it was possible to change jobs within the company. The company has solid benefits."

Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?

"Be prepared to deal with bureaucracy."

What don't you like about working at Unisys?

"Management out of touch. Too many layoffs and too much business automation -- the company is in the business of replacing people with computers."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"Get out of their ivory towers, fire their yes-men, and get in the trenches with the people actually making money for the company."

Unisys Employee

"Number Talk."

What do you like about working at Unisys?

"I used to like working for Unisys simply because it had toughened me up. They somehow train you to work more and be more like a machine and not a human being. When they say people are sometimes treated as a number and nothing else, this is TRUE with this company. Behind the smiles, only numbers remain."

Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?

"Don't trust anyone. Prepare yourself for the unexpected. If you are coders and think you could rely on your team to getting your job done, please think again. You are your own team. Just get your work in, present your whitened front teeth and go home to your family. My so-called teammates cost me my job. Again, do not trust others for the completion of any task that carries your name. That might just save your bread."

What don't you like about working at Unisys?

"I don't like the fact that the company forces employees into spending COUNTLESS number of their own personal time training for some courses they probably wouldn't use in their field. I found myself studying many hours after work to pass mandatory courses just so I wouldn't get a bad review. It was specially hard for my fiancee who rarely spent any time with me."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"Please pinpoint the appropriate courses to benefits specific engagement instead of forcing staff into taking useless courses they would rather forget about right after completion of the project."

Senior Network Architect

"I have learnt a lot on this position."

What do you like about working at Unisys?

"Growth opportunity."

Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?

"Good luck."

Scientific Programmer

What do you like about working at Unisys?

"When I worked at Unisys, I was contracted to the DoD. My manager allowed me to interact with the management at NOSC (Naval Ocean System Center). He trusted me. I knew I could handle the day to day rigors of dealing with the government. I was certainly able to answer all questions asked of me concerning the projects I was working on and any upcoming RFP (request for proposals). I appreciated this respect."

Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?

"Learn machine language."

What don't you like about working at Unisys?

"There was a slight breakdown in communication in upper management. Sometimes one manager would tell us one rule, then the next day we would get another from someone else."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"Have all management have weekly status meetings. Make sure there are no problems with communication. This was concerning the San Diego site. Perhaps this problem has been rectified."

Manager

"A company in decline."

What do you like about working at Unisys?

"No longer there - laid off after 35 years, eliminated whole department."

Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?

"Save yourself, run now."

What don't you like about working at Unisys?

"Only has short term vision, trying to cut corners in complying with CMMI."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"The Federal sector is not like the commercial sector, stop trying to make it work the same way."

Unisys Employee

What do you like about working at Unisys?

"Training opportunities and travels abroad; good camaraderie among employees. employees can freely express their thoughts to their boss without fear of reprisal."

Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?

"Just be honest and factual with what you say."

What don't you like about working at Unisys?

"Credits are not always given to whom they are due. Some influential / lucky persons take the credits that one labored for. This is a dis-incentive to excellence."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"Give more weight to performance in assessing one's worth to the company. Lessen personal bias. Productivity must always be guide to determine if an employee is asset or liability to the company."

Software Engineer

"Company is declining, no major growth."

What do you like about working at Unisys?

"Independence in the workplace. The environment is good with seasoned professionals around you."

Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?

"Have fresh ideas and be able to adapt to situations."

What don't you like about working at Unisys?

"Lack of resources. You are now the expert as there is no one left to guide a product. If you have questions as to why something is being done, there is no one to ask for best practices. Few jobs have multiple people to use, so if someone is gone (vacation, RIF or just another project), the job cannot be done effectively. Lack of hiring, no new personnel. Youngest person in our department was over 24 years of experience. Average age was over 50 for our department. All new hires are being done abroad. Who will pick up the pieces in the next several years when others retire?"

What suggestions do you have for management?

"New technology needs new thought. You cannot take 25+ years of experience and have them grasp current concepts. Morale is low due to constant RIFs, there is nothing to give the employees 'hope'. Without new hiring, Unisys will have trouble surviving."

Line Manager

"Good place to work at."

Business Solutions Consultant

"Good."

"Corporate downsizing from other division was constant."

Service Delivery Program Manager

"Poor management, just about the money."
