Administrative Assistant

"Great company and great people."

Superintendent

"It's a job, not a place for a career."

What do you like about working at Tuscan Builders?

"The work challenged my abilities and gave me an opportunity, albeit short-lived for lack of work, to grow in knowledge of the business from a more professional standpoint - how communications with architects and owners reps works, etc."

Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?

"The ownership doesn't understand that in many cases, IF you really take care of your people, they will really take care of your business, your name, and your company's reputation. The bottom line for him was/probably still is how much is in it for me If you're just looking for a fill-in job, it's a swell place to work, but you couldn't count on advancement opportunities. The turnover for superintendents seemed high."

What don't you like about working at Tuscan Builders?

"Although receiving the advertised and standard bonus compensation for finishing a ground-up Capital One building on time and within budget, the bonuses should be structured to reflect how well the superintendent finished the job. I received the usual $500 for that job that had a gross profit of $166,000 - due in large part to my physical efforts to do things other superintendents hired temp labor to handle for them. The obvious fact was totally ignored by the ownership and I felt somewhat under-enthused about working for Tuscan, because my efforts were not appreciated."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"Obviously, make the bonuses more commensurate with the profits a superintendent is directly responsible for making. I realize that bids can be blown and that the profits just aren't there in such cases, and are not the fault of the superintendent. But to have received even 1% ($1666.00) would have been a real encouragement to me, and anyone else receiving such applause."
