"I had work for True Value for over 20 years. It was a great company to work for and I enjoyed helping the over 3000 independent hardware store owners meet the challenges of their retail store operations. The strength of the company was always the focus on the retailer, but that changed in recent years as the newer management felt that the Corporate Mandate to the individual store owner was in the retailers best interest."

What do you like about working at True Value?

"Benefits package is good. They like to host a lot of events that bring people together. They try to keep their employees engaged."

Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?

"If you're interested in working with people who love to stay put, put on your happy face. If you love office cake parties, you're set. If you want to push yourself in your career and advance quickly, don't sign up for this."

What don't you like about working at True Value?

"The company moves slow. They give mixed messages about what their goals are...is it retailers Is it wholesale Is it retailers They're constantly re-packaging what they're about to suit that week's discussion. It's a lot of hype to avoid the owner-retailers from coming back at them."

"I would stop putting on the show, and asking employees to give money to the company charity all the time."
