Tampa General Hospital Employee

"The pay is basically the poverty level in Tampa. I just accepted a job doing the same thing, employee relations with another company….I increased my salary by $98K a year by leaving Tampa General. And yes. It’s remote, full time and the benefits are even better. TGH needs to pay its employees enough to survive in this economy. CEO acts like he’s the greatest but while he earns millions no one else can even afford rent. Get with the times, TGH. This isn’t 2002. People can afford to live in Tampa off $55K a year and if John Couris thinks they can, he’s out of touch with reality. Don’t work here unless you truly have no financial goals and someone else pays your bills. You’ll work yourself to death and they’ll tell you they paid you in the sunshine because the executives get paid the big bucks to hob knob with DeSantis and chill at lightning games. What a joke."

Nurse Practitioner

"Exciting place, fun but ARNP's not treated with as much respect as they deserve."

What do you like about working at Tampa General Hospital?

"Efficiency. Pleasant staff. State of the art. Exciting dynamic place to work."

Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?

"If you want a great teaching hospital and lots of action this is your place but it can get old after a few years when you dont see any improvement in respect or salary dispite hard work and unpaid over time. MD's are very supportive but management is not, and management controls your conditions and salary. Definitely do not accept first offer given to you. The directors hiring often under ball by about $5 to 18k less than they are prepared to give."

What don't you like about working at Tampa General Hospital?

"Management and treatment of nurse Practitioners by Tampa general is poor. Salary is poor. Work is generally demanding."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"Treat Nurse Practitioners with more respect. Office space, career/salary ladder that rewards experience and dedication. I never felt I would be treated with any greater deference by management after 10 years hard work so I left and happy I did so.I feel emplyment of the ARNP is considered a financial burden to the hospital and not the gift to the system that it is. One example I can give that reflects the manipulative attitude of the management.in 08 pressure was placed on the ARNP to have patients discharged by 11am, and when quotas where not met for this (that is, for what ever reason, the patient did not get out by 11am) the ARNP's where repremanded as though to blame. (Incidentally when the ARNP does meet requested goals its the hospital directors that get their bonus not the ARNP !). This may seem pretty insignificant a gripe, but it just illustrates the attitude of the managent towards the ARNP."
