Sysco International Food Group, Inc Employee

"This company hired a large group of individuals at the same time because they were experiencing a great amount of market growth. We expected that we would have the opportunity to create value in our own individual way. This was not the case. As it turns out there was no Room at all in our current market for any more individuals to take over said territories. The company hired us I believe under the principle that there would be a large amount of attrition for those who were attempting to successfully navigate through the policies of our job. Fast forward to a few years later and all of us as employees were still there scraping a long. None of us had any large amount of market growth. We were all just hanging on tempted by the notion that some day we could be paid what we were actually worth. This is a soul sucking way of life. I can only speak for myself personally when I say that I tried every single day from open to close to increase the size of my territory and grow sales. Nevertheless we were only allowed to open accounts through the blessings of the higher powers. By basic nature you would think that this would be a fair policy. However through this control, any of us as professionals were only allowed the growth through the discretion of our superiors. For whatever reason our growth was very very limited. And this in turn meant that our compensation was limited as well. We were always chasing the horizon. At general service meetings (GSM's) We could see rewards being reaped by those only a year or so ahead of us. Their territories although wer many hundreds of percent larger than ours. Seeing this is a visual motivator for all of those employed in our position to continue to grind on. Although the only true Avenue to success at this company is made through the attrition of our peers. There is no secret formula. The less people there are in the market, the more money those people will make. It is unfortunate that for years I soldiered on and sold the company"
