Static Control Components Employee

"I have been working for SCC for several years. I have seen the company grow and prosper, then level out and now with more competition and ownership transition contract. Like all companies, this company has its positive and negative attributes. The job has never been boring but has been rather stressful and challenging. This is a unique company in that they will acquire the tools and equipment required to get the job done without all of the overhead of budgets and paperwork. The really big downside of the company is its location in Sanford, NC."

What do you like about working at Static Control Components?

"The pay was good considering the economy. My fellow workers were pleasant and intelligent. The idea of what the company was trying to achieve was sound and forward-thinking."

Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?

"You might think you can endure in the environment of SCC, but you can't. You will leave or it will kill your soul. So many employees told me they would have left years ago if they didn't have kids to raise or an ex to support or whatever. I didn't meet a single employee who was actually happy there. I thought I could beat the system; find a way to succeed. But the place is a Skinner box. It can't be done."

What don't you like about working at Static Control Components?

"I was fired. The owner called me into his office and fired me and had me escorted off the premises. His reason was: While searching for new prospects for employment someone had discovered a resume of mine online. The owner's opinion was that I was biding my time, taking his money looking for something better. Thus, I was fired. I was not given any opportunity to rebut, or even discuss this. The fact that it was untrue did not matter. In addition, the oppressiveness of the fear-driven management structure made it difficult to be enthusiastic about the work. The conflicts between the owner and his two sons make knowing what to do to get things right almost arbitrary and drag projects out long past a reasonable time to get them done. Even the managers talk about the owners behind their backs and help the employees to present appearances and say and do the right things to manipulate the owner into agreement. It's ridiculous."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"Grow up. It doesn't matter; no one there is listening. I'm sure they believe they are always right and there is nothing anyone can say to change that. As long as people need work, they will go there for jobs, so the ownership can continue to believe what they believe with no contradiction."
