"Perpetual Dysfunction Reigns"

What do you like about working at Spalding University?

"Having an opportunity to help students who really want to be helped and not just those students who want to have the world their way without any commitment on their part was the best part about working there."

Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?

"Have a discerning spirit. Ask questions of those currently in the institution, but also ask questions of those who have left the institution. Seek honest answers by continually asking questions."

What don't you like about working at Spalding University?

"The environment is one of perpetual dysfunction and the employees seem to take joy in that dysfunction. It's a constant clean-up project due to ineffective leadership who lack vision for what an academic institution is supposed to be. Hires are continually made that employ people who are incompetent in the areas in which they are to work. A lack of education, experiences, and preparation plagues each department including the upper administration."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"Get a clue. Visit some other institutions with similar demographics and see what they are doing. Surround yourselves with smart people, people who are smarter than you are. Spend resources in recruiting quality people and then work to keep them in the institution. Don't be afraid of those who want to take the institution to a different level. Change is inevitable. Just because it's a small institution, you do not have to function 20 years behind the rest of the academic world."
