Southwestern College Overview

Southwestern College is a liberal-arts insitution based in Winfield, Kansas, approximately 40 miles from Wichita. Founded in 1865 by the Southwest Conference of the Methodist Episcopal Church, the school offers degrees in 28 liberal arts programs, as well as several pre-professional degrees and now six graduate degrees. Housed in 20 buildings across 82 acres, the college maintains its affiliation with the United Methodist Church, but strives to create an inclusive environment for students of all backgrounds.

Students are afforded the opportunity to learn in a quiet, challenging environment. With a faculty to student ratio of only 12 to 1, students are able to get to know their professors and learn from the knowledge and expertise they bring to campus. There are also a number of athletic and extra-curricular activities available to challenge students to grow beyond the classroom.

Tradition is important at Southwestern College, inlcuding one unique to this campus. Each year, students are enourcaged to add a rock to a pile known as The Mound. This symbolizes their part in building the institution and taking it into the future.
