"Software consulting has its positives and negatives. When the work is interesting and the team is good, there is nothing like it. When the job is like the Lutron experience, not so much. Problem with software consulting is that many companies are taking advantage of offshore develops from India and other parts of the globe who are willing to work for a fraction of the going rates in the US. My business has suffered from this trend. I can see the financial advantage but quality suffers greatly."
"I love the constant challenge and the fact that the industry moves so quickly. It keeps me learning new techniques and systems all the time. I thrive on this constant new problem to solve. Deadline stress can be a real difficult aspect of this line of work, so as long as I keep ahead of the deadline I'm OK, But there are always those times, like product release that are pressure cooker situations. They are a double edged sword. The stress is hard but after, the satisfaction is great!"
