St. Louis University (also called SLU) is a private Jesuit university based in St. Louis, Missouri. The university has a long history and was founded back in 1818. It was established by Louis Guillaume Valentin Dubourg, who served as the Bishop of Louisiana. SLU was one of the first university to admit African-American students in 1944, at a time where most educational institutions in the United States were still segregated. SLU has made significant investments in its campuses during the past 20 years, which helped revitalize Midtown St. Louis.
