Some aspects of my job I still enjoy - figuring out how new technologies work, and plan how to inform users about how to use them. I feel stymied as there are fewer and fewer documentation leadership positions to aspire to.I will stay in this line of work, since the skills and experience I have in this field are the most valuable things I can trade for a salary."

What do you like about working at StataCorp?
"I loved working with the other editor and our web designer/graphic artist to produce quality publications."
Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?
"The interview process was grueling: All day interviewing with staff and completing some difficult editing assignments by which you are judged."
What don't you like about working at StataCorp?
"It was a little frustrating that they had very defined roles and did not take advantage of my skills."
What suggestions do you have for management?
"They need to understand what a writer and editor can offer. They've had a lot of turnover for that reason."

What do you like about working at Clarus Corp.?
"Everyone seemed to be looking in the same business direction and wanted to do their best."
Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?
"Again they are closed now, but when I interviewed I found it a comfortable process, where they really just wanted to know if I could do the job."
What don't you like about working at Clarus Corp.?
"Overspending. For example, the CEO hired a marching band to honor himself. It always left me feeling they would be out of business soon . . . and they were."
What suggestions do you have for management?
"Nothing now, as the company folded in 2001. But they needed to rope in extravagant spending."

"Be honest, straightforward and hard working, with attention to detail and quality."

"Not enough work to keep me busy for 40 hours per week."

"Keep the quality level high for everything produced, for each client."
What do you like about working at U.S. Department of Defense?
"Military culture of team work and mission focus. Everyone is friendly and there is little drama. People get along with each other and management has the best intentions."

"Do not complain about your current position. Focus on what you do well and how you will contribute to the mission. Demonstrate how you are a team player and that you believe that a rising tide lifts all boats. Show how you go above and beyond to do more than just check the box in your jobs. Show a positive attitude and a calm, clear demeanor."
What don't you like about working at U.S. Department of Defense?
"It's boring. The performance is very low. Management is resistant to change. People who try to do things differently are punished by resistance and complaining. I have no opportunity for growth in my current position but make too much money to easily transition to another career field at my salary grade."
What suggestions do you have for management?
"Focus on performance and reward the top performers. Break the status quo and don't be afraid to innovate and change. Stop doing things the same way they have always been done. Be open to being uncomfortable and having some people not happy."
What do you like about working at Quadrem?
"A small company with a very close knit group, and open access to all levels of management. I was given autonomy to create the standards and procedures needed for the documentation I created."
What don't you like about working at Quadrem?
"Because it is a small company, it is more subject to market variations, although it has since been purchased by a larger company."

"It was a very interesting to work for and the people were wonderful."

"Proof read everything that is submitted multiply times and be grateful."

"The department was unorganized and the management was inexperience working with people."

"They should be setup with in house training for their IT department."

"I enjoyed the people that I worked close with, and the learning experience working in a pharmaceutical company."

"Each management team are different, work directly with the engineers."

"It became difficult working with different departments, they replaced the management every few months."

"The management should include all new employees training on their products for the company."

"Prepare a strong resume and be willing to answer all questions thoughtfully."

"I have no substantial complaints about working with Harris Crucial Security."

"Strengthen secondary management which is the most important factor in retaining good workers."

"The people are the best and the compensation is generous."

"Don't try to avoid talking about mistakes you have made. They respect honesty and strength. They don't have much patience for weakness."

"The poor planning for many projects causes last minute scrambles."
What suggestions do you have for management?
"Improve the planning process to include the work that other groups need to do for your project. Stand up for your subordinates."

"The team was highly professional, and the PM did a great job organizing and delegating the work."
Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?
"Just be yourself and be honest. These are good people, with a high level of integrity. If you have the skills they need and are a nice person, they will welcome you readily."
What don't you like about working at Acentia?
"I worked as a contractor, short-term, with no benefits. Was offered full time work, but the salary was $30k lower. Acentia was not the prime, so several subcontractors were cut on completion of the project."
What suggestions do you have for management?
"Get mote contracts, and call me back! I would love contracting with you, again!"

"I had a long series of interesting contracts with a variety of companies. Something new every contract."

"As it was was my own company, I did triple duty finding contracts, doing all the paperwork for the company, taxes, etc. Great experience, overall."
