Research associates provide support to marketing managers, lawyers, real estate developers and business owners. On a regular day at work, a research associate may look up business reports, research marketing demographics and provide administrative support to upper level management and business owners. People in this occupational field carry out a large number of duties and provide support and foundational research for companies.
Skillset: Research associates usually have exceptional language arts skills, are adept at paying attention to details, and can multi-task efficiently. Many companies who hire people for this type of occupation seek out individuals who have sound communication skills and who are efficient at using computer programs and the Internet.
Education: Many research associates can begin working for a company with a high school diploma or a vocational technical degree. People who work in advanced departments will often be required to hold a bachelor’s degree in law, human resources, business, or sociology. Many times, the degree required will be dependent upon the industry the person is working in.
Career Path: A good foundation for being an effective research assistant is based on an ability to use computer programs. Advanced writing classes, business law courses and history courses are recommended.
