Senior Programmer Analyst at Verizon Wireless

What do you like about working at Verizon Wireless?

"The work can be interesting at times. The people are generally talented."

Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?

"Don't even bother if you are not Indian, as you will be discriminated against on an ongoing basis."

What don't you like about working at Verizon Wireless?

"It's not so good. I don't think I've said anything positive so far. The place is an utter disaster."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"Eliminate corporate racism, especially in hiring and promotions. Spend money on office furniture and equipment. Ensure work-life balance. Pay overtime to people who are legally entitled to it but are today coerced to not reporting the hours they work. Ensure people have the tools they need to do the job. Eliminate the silos that dominate the company."

Senior Programmer Analyst at BBVA Compass
in Birmingham, AL

What do you like about working at BBVA Compass?

"It's well paid, it's local, a few of my colleagues are supportive and keen to learn."

Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?

"Use BBVA Compass as a place to be well paid whilst hardening yourself to the realities of corporate America. After working here for a year or two, you'll be very well prepared to work for smaller, more adaptive, more entrepreneurial companies and really appreciate their worth. But don't get caught in the golden handcuffs!"

What don't you like about working at BBVA Compass?

"Politics means that managers don't lead, they defend or attack. There's inadequate training, so many people don't know if they're doing the right thing. Too much depends on knowledge stuck in individuals heads, so there is a reliance on heroes, who work too hard, complain, yet defend their status by refusing to share their knowledge."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"Flatten the org chart so management and staff work more closely. Use dedicated teams to work on specific single projects. Recognize achievements. Massively improve internal communications. Improve the work environment to support teamwork. Pay bonuses to teams, not to individuals."

Senior Programmer Analyst at Nintendo
in Redmond, WA

Please give us a one liner to describe this review.

"The work was fun and challenging. The employees took pride in their work."

What do you like about working at Nintendo?

"Since the majority of employees have worked at Nintendo for many years, there is a real sense of family. The company sponsors several events throughout the year to recognize the contribution of the employees to Nintendo's success, and the benefits are the best I've ever had. The work itself is fun and exciting, with just enough pressure to keep things interesting."

Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?

"Nintendo is a good company to work for. Since it must have a quick response time to changing technology and to the public 's interests, employees need to be flexible and willing to work efficiently. Teamwork is very important."

What don't you like about working at Nintendo?

"Recently, an extremely complex, company-wide project placed a small number of employees under an extreme amount of stress. Their frustrations spilled over to the rest of their department, and morale was pretty low."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"If a project is going badly, say so. Don't try to put a positive spin on the situation. Spend more time planning and assessing the cost for large projects. Quite a few employees who had vacations cancelled had to sit around for several weeks with little to do while they waited for another team to hand off their stage of the project."
