Working at Seneca in Modesto, CA: 1 Employee Reviews

Quality Control Technician

"Good review but there could be a better poll. Should be more detail oriented and precise."

What do you like about working at Seneca?

"I liked the swing and graveyard shift because it was a seasonal summer/fall job and the plant gets really hot where I work because of all the lines and the Cookers are boiling hot. A lot of overtime but not enough hourly wage compared to other seasonal food processing plants in the same area. The pay for the job I did should have been avg. 12-13 dollars an hr not 9.46 with two years experience."

Do you have any tips for others interviewing with this company?

"I don't have any tips really besides be energetic and positive throughout the interview. The hiring manager wants to hear you can work long hours and days on end. Oh yeah and still be on time everyday even if its day 13 or 14 with no days off. Which I'm pretty sure is breaking another code..."

What don't you like about working at Seneca?

"Seneca is a food processing plant that ships food throughout North America and Overseas. When I worked there it was all about production first and quality last. Which then ran down the line to Sanitation workers not caring about cleanliness. They just wanted to finish quickly. From what I have heard from employees I know that still work there is Seneca is facing numerous felony convictions and fines. They were busted for very very poor sanitation and shipping product with bacteria growing inside the cans. My second year working at Seneca I received a .25 cent raise and more responsibility on my back. I had to take care of all the book work, pull can's off lines for USDA at specific times every hour or so. I then had to train the new person working with me. Yeah in my job position you don't move up quick unless luck is on your side. There was a very poor setup of half the workers were Company like me and the other half were Union. I couldn't apply for Union cause I was Company. I realized Union is the only way to advance and receive benefits. I believe that Company/Union is being faded out to all Company no Union. The Union workers were being favored for higher pay and better jobs so the Plant Manager found out about all the complaints coming in from the Company workers and put a stop to that. Very stressful job high production requirements long hrs and sometimes no days off for two to three weeks."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"Rebuild and try to pick out the bad seeds. If someone isn't working it puts more work load on the next guy and it happened to me and others many times. If the management goes out on the floor once or twice a night and watches their workers perform its easy to know who works and who doesn't."
