1So let me tell you the real truth behind Roto-Rooter in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Let’s start with the techs in the field. The ones who are not licensed journeymen (which is everyone but 5 plumbers) are out through a 30 day ride along “training program” and then are considered as skillful as us with 4+ years of well rounded plumbing experience. These “techs” are then thrown in a van and are forced to work 60+ hours a week and get hounded if they take a lunch break. These inexperienced helpers come to your house and will charge you whatever they want for a job, and if you’re lucky that’s all they will do. The majority of these guys will up sell you on some kind of plumbing job that you don’t really need, and it will be done by an unlicensed apprentice. The vans and drain machines are company provided and you get a gas card, but this gas card you fill your van up with is deducted out of your paycheck by a percentage of the cost to fill their van up with. They also provide you with a company phone and tablet, but they charge you a percentage of their bill on every paycheck. If you get a call back (which is warranty work) they will pull your pay on that job and you will never be compensated for the work you did that day. When you are not running calls and slaving away for a very small percentage of their “flare rates” (which they deduct $10 off of right away) you will be sitting at home making not even minimum wage. Well actually you make $0.00 if you don’t do any jobs. The field supervisor has never been a plumber and his only plumbing experience is what he hears from the guys in the field. The franchise owner has an engineering degree and was only in a van for 1 entire year (which is not even enough to get a journeyman license, let alone an idea of how plumbing works), and makes plumbers do repairs not even close to code. I actually have a picture of a couple of jobs I did by the way he wanted to do it. I’m sure you get the gist of the “experience” you are receiving
3.8I have been with Roto Rooter for 12 years November '19. Overall a good company to work for if you can provide your own van and tools.New hires commission rate seems sub par for such an investment, but that is for each person to decide. Middle management seems enslaved to numbers and not to quality of work. Morale reflects this. If you are motivated and can stay out of the office/technician drama, you can make an above average plumbers income by growing your network of customers and co workers.
3.5They promise you the world and then cut your legs when things are close to giving you the world. Looks good at the moment and when the moment has come it’s taken without care. True lies do exist with this company and so be aware of the over welcome rewards they offer because when it’s time to give it up they tell you that you are not needed anymore for whatever reason.
